Exchange Server 2007!
On Tuesday April 25th, at the Microsoft Management Summit (MMS), the official name of the next version of Exchange Server, formally known as Exchange “12”, was announced – Exchange Server 2007. During his keynote address at the event, Bob Muglia also demonstrated the Exchange Management Shell, a scriptable command line shell in Exchange 2007 as an innovative new application based on Windows PowerShell (formerly known as Monad).
Announced at the MMS: Exchange Server 2007 will give organizations the power to cost effectively deploy and manage a reliable enterprise-class messaging system. Key new manageability features in Exchange Server 2007 include the following:
- As the first Microsoft application to deliver new automation capability based on PowerShell, (formerly known as Monad) The Exchange Management Shell, a scriptable command line shell and innovative new application, will save IT administrators countless hours by allowing routine and repetitive tasks to be automated through a scriptable command line shell.
- The Exchange Management Console, a graphical console formally known as Exchange System Manager, is also built entirely on top of Windows PowerShell and will increase administrative productivity through simplified navigation and new filtering capabilities for managing their messaging environment.
- Deeper integration of support tools such as Exchange Server 2007 Best Practices Analyzer (ExBPA) with MOM allows administrators to scan their Exchange Servers, providing them with the data they need to ensure their messaging is configured to deliver optimal performance. In MOM, the ExBPA data can be compiled with Exchange Server 2007 performance metrics to give administrators a clear view of the state of their environment.
- Simple and flexible deployment based on specific server roles gives IT administrators the option to install precisely the components of Exchange Server 2007 that they need, whether on one or more physical servers. This flexibility simplifies deployment, allows for greater scalability and improves manageability.
