Last Piece in the Jigsaw

I guess I am a little behind the times as this went live a week or so back, but I thought it was still worth calling out that the RTW build of WSS 3.0 Extensions for Visual Studio 2005 is now live.

Visual Studio 2005 Extensions for WSS 3.0

This is the last of the Beta tools and SDKs to hit RTW.  (That doesn't mean that there won't be more goodies to come over the coming months though).  Here's what's in this download:

Visual Studio 2005 Project Templates

  • Web Part
  • Team Site Definition
  • Blank Site Definition
  • List Definition

Visual Studio 2005 Item Templates (items that can be added into an existing project)

  • Web Part
  • Custom Field
  • List Definition (with optional Event Receiver)
  • Content Type (with optional Event Receiver)
  • Module

SharePoint Solution Generator

  • This stand-alone program generates a Site Definition project from an existing SharePoint site. The program enables developers to use the browser and Microsoft Office SharePoint Designer to customize the content of their sites before creating code by using Visual Studio.

I am particularly excited by the SharePoint Solution Generator.  Have you tried it already?  If so let me know what you think.

This is all good, but if you tried it for yourself you would know that this is just the FIRST piece in the jigsaw. There is a long way to go for WSS to become a good DEVELOPMENT foundation.
