BizTalk 2013 Compatibility with latest platforms of Microsoft

We have been getting many question from our customers regarding BizTalk 2013’s compatibility with latest Microsoft Platforms like Visual Studio 2013, Windows Server 2012 R2 and Windows 8.1.

It is understandable that as the latest two version of the above mentioned platforms (Windows 8 and Windows 8.1, Server 2012 and Server 2012 R2, VS 2012 and VS 2013) have come out (or are going to come out in near future) within a shorter time span, the customers would like to go for a newer versions in case they are planning to upgrade.

As we already know that BizTalk 2013 traditionally supports Windows Server 2012, Windows 8 and Visual Studio 2012, there is no data/article which is available online that talks about support for the newer version of these platforms.

Being part of Microsoft, I decided to check with our product group whether we have any plans of adding these new platforms in the supported products list or whether they are already supported. And it turns out that they are yet not supported with BizTalk 2013.

But one thing they did confirm is that BizTalk will have an update to support the latest platform about 6 months after the products (Windows 8.1/2012R2, SQL2014, and VS2013) are released. This is the same behavior that we have seen in the past as our product team needs time to perform test on the newer version of the software. So we should see Visual Studio 2013 and other products added in the supported list once our product group is done with required tests.

I hope this helps many of our customers out there who are thinking about moving to newer product versions and want to check their compatibility as well.

Are you sure that Visual Studio 2013 is supported by BizTalk 2013 ?I tried to install BizTalk SDK on a server with VS 2013 installed, and I can not check the SDK checkbox.

In BizTalk software requirements it says that it supports VS 2012 so it seems VS 2013 is not yet supported.

6 months on; and all quiet in the update zone. I seem to remember that BTS devs were on VS 2008 well after VS 2010 went RTM.

I just upgraded 2013 to 2013 R2. I installed VS 2013 first. I also upgrade the HL7 Accelerator. When creating a new project is VS 2013 the artifacts are missing.  No Orchestrations, Maps, Pipelines, Schemas, etc.. I can however, see the HL7 schemas. (I upgraded the HL7 Accelerator)I tired this on two Azure VMs. First I up Standard, Next I upgraded R2 to Enterprise. Same issue.Other issues is the documentation is for BizTalk 2010 on the HL7 Accelerator.
