If I came across a 'semantic web', what would it look like?
Would I know it was semantic web just through my using it?
What signs would I look for?

Tim B. wrote a really good article on the Semantic Web for the Scientific American magazine. He lists some really good practical examples of what the Semantic Web could be.

I'd look it a different way; i'd look at all the data I have that is unstructured and wonder what i could make if it was...
as to your real question, I doubt you'd noticed the difference :)
