Enterprise Library 5.0 on XP: additional test pass, no issues

It’s been a week since we released Enterprise Library 5.0. I’ve been watching the blogosphere, tweets, Codeplex comments and reviews. The feedback seems to be overwhelmingly positive. One minor ripple that appeared is the fact that we didn’t include Windows XP in our platform test matrix. I’ve already responded and explained why. I’ve also indicated that we saw no reason why Enterprise Library 5.0 wouldn’t work on XP. However, to make sure that this concern doesn’t turn into a dissatisfier, the Enterprise Library test team has conducted an additional test pass on Windows XP SP3 and no issues have been found. For those of you who care about running EntLib5 on XP, here’s an official confirmation from Microsoft patterns & practices – it works!

I’ve updated the online Release Notes accordingly.

    that is great news. here in zambia a lot of people still use xp. it is unlikely that the usage pattern will change much even with the coming of windows 7. we will continue to ship XP applications for some time. BTW the XP in SiliconXP is Extreme Programing and not the XP of the OS

    But i have some issue with data access block connect with Oracle 10g (with ODP).Same time i have added some couple of methods to cater for Oracle Ref Cursors. My problem is once i create the Class Library which using EntLib 5.0 and it has been build without any issue. Then i added this Project reference to my WCF project, then it has occurred the following compilation errors. The type or namespace name 'ServiceRepository' could not be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?) Pls assist me to resolve this issue. Thank you

    what about on Windows XP SP2? does the visual studio 2008 need SP1 to run? Thanks

    I have Windows 7 Home Premium. Can I still use ENTLIB 5.0? If not, which version can I use then? Thanks.

    @egcareer Enterprise Library runs on the manaded .NET base. Thus, for as long as the .NET Framework's system requirements are satisfied, you can run it on any OS, including Windows 7 Home Premium. Please note, EntLib5 requires .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 or .NET Framework 4.0. The reason we didn't list Windows 7 Home Premium in our system requirements is because our test matrix is limited to the ones we indicated. I am pretty sure it will run on Windows 7 Home Premium, but we cannot claim it without doing a full test pass. Please let me know if you run into any issues. Regards, Grigori

    Hi I Don't know if you would still reply this thread or not but I try to import ENTLIB Data.dll file into my project in VS2010 on Windows 7 Prof platform but it wouldn't pick up the namespace in my 'using' statments!!!! do you know anything about this!!! Many thanks in advance. Regards, SAJ

    @SAJ It should. Which SKU of VS2010 are you using? Post your repro steps to entlib.codeplex.com/discussions, my support team will look into it.
