live.com - better than start.com?

I like that live.com is easier to type: one character less than start.com, and a lot easier than typing search.msn.com (and also easier than google.com!). So I am not using start.com as the choice for a quick search portal. Of course, first thing I do after getting to live.com on a random computer is to hide the sidebar, etc. Although, to be fair, clicking on "hide" consumes one more click.

On the other side, starting today, live.com replaces start.com as my home page on all my computers... :-)

What I also like: the search results now look a lot more closely to the MSN search results. My main problem with start.com was the way search results looked like: no "cached page" link, and a lot shorter text summary for each link.

The thing that bugs me about live.com is that if you search for something, click a link, then click "Back" it takes you back to the home page, not the search results page. At least with start.com it popped up the link in a different window (which is pretty annoying as well, but better than losing your place in the search results, I guess).

I think I'll keep my homepage set to google for a little while longer at least...

Agree - although I haven't noticed this myself - the Back button not working is a big problem.

Generally, most AJAX apps have this problem - it is a hard one to solve...

By the way, the Live.com team is aware about the "search lost" issue.

    >>> The other major bug is our search experience. When you search for something, click on a link and navigate away from our page and come back to our page, your search is lost. We are working on fixing this as well. We have had some discussion within the team about how to solve this particular issue. Our current idea is to ship what we think is reasonable behavior and then listen to you guys to fix it even further.
