Configuring Access to Analysis Services

After you install an instance of Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Analysis Services (SSAS), all members of the Administrators local group are members of the server role in that instance and have server-wide permissions to perform any task within the instance of Analysis Services. By default, no other users have any access permissions to the objects in the instance. Members of the Analysis Services server role can grant other users access to server and database objects by using SQL Server Management Studio, Business Intelligence Development Studio, or an XMLA script.

The following topics describe how a member of the Analysis Services server role can grant other users access to Analysis Services:

  • Granting Administrative Access
A member of the Analysis Services server role can grant users administrative access at either the server-wide level or the database level.
  • Granting User Access
A member of the Analysis Services server role can use database roles to grant users access to data sources, cubes, dimensions, mining structures, and mining models.
