Note

Unless otherwise noted, the information in this article applies to both Microsoft Search Server 2008 and Microsoft Search Server 2008 Express.

Add a server name mapping to override how search results are displayed and how users access content after you create a content index. Delete a server name mapping when you no longer want to override how search results are displayed in search results or how users access content after you create a content index.

To manage server name mappings, you must first open the Server Name Mappings page. To do this:

  • On the Search Administration page, under Queries and Results, click Server name mappings.

Follow this procedure to add a server name mapping.

Add a server name mapping

  1. On the Server Name Mappings page, click New Mapping.

  2. On the Add Server Name Mapping page, in the Address in index box, type the address for the content that will be crawled.

  3. In the Address in search results box, type the address that appears in the search results and from which a user can access the content.

  4. Click OK.

Editing a server name mapping

You can edit either the address used in the index or the address that appears in the search results for the mapping.

Edit a server name mapping

  1. On the Server Name Mappings page, in the Address for indexing column, click the address for which you want to edit the mapping.

  2. On the Edit Server Name Mapping page, in the Server Names section, make your edits in the Address in index and Address in search results boxes.

  3. Click OK.

Deleting a server name mapping

  • On the Server Name Mappings page, in the list of mappings, point to the mapping that you want to delete, click the arrow that appears, and then click Delete.
