Voice Components
Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 and Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 R2 will reach end of support on January 9, 2018. To stay supported, you will need to upgrade. For more information, see Resources to help you upgrade your Office 2007 servers and clients.
Office Communications Server 2007 R2 provides a rich set of Enterprise Voice features suitable for global voice (that is, telephony) deployments. This section describes the voice components and the relationship between these components. It also describes the process boundaries for the various components.
Other topics in the Technical Reference describe common infrastructure and conferencing infrastructure that enable certain key functions for Enterprise Voice. For example, Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) registration, performed by RTCSrv.exe and the User Services module, enables the fundamental call switching aspect of Enterprise Voice. The key additional components specific to enabling Enterprise Voice are either hosted on RTCHost.exe (that is, Inbound Routing, Translation Service, Outbound Routing, Exchange UM) or hosted as Unified Communications Application Services (UCAS) applications (that is, Conferencing Attendant, Conferencing Announcement Service, Response Group Service, and Outside Voice Control).
