I'm on my way to Santa Barbara

Tomorrow at the lovely hour of 7:25am I get on an airplane and head down to Santa Barbara for a Tech Talk at the University of California - Santa Barbara. I was at UCSD last month, so with this trip I'll have knocked out two letters of the alphabet from the UCS* group :)

What is a Tech Talk? Well, it's pretty much a college recruiting trip. Pizza and drinks are brought in and the recruiters send down a box with giveaways, and I talk for an hour. My presentations are definitely a bit different than the norm: I use a bunch of photographs to tell people my history in Windows Mobile. I bring old hardware that still works (anyone out there remember Handheld PC 1.0?), as well as new hardware with cool games and music (Kelly is my American Idol!).

Of course trips can always be stressful, and this one is proving to be problematic from the start. I can't seem to track down our Wolfvision so I can show the devices to the people that show up. I was chatting with Robert by IM tonight and it clicked that I can actually use the Remote Display tool from our developer power toys to show the UI on my laptop. Not ideal, but better than nothing.

So, if you happen to be a student at UCSB and you're reading this, stop by! We'll be in the State Street room in the UCEN. We start promptly at 7pm, so show up a few minutes before so you can enter the raffle for cool prizes.

Well, technically I was thinking of the San ones, so that means I have two to go: UCSF and UCSC. I've done Berkeley too. Guess I'll have to get all the rest next year :)

No, I just meant that perhaps next recruiting season (fall-spring) I can see if I can make it down to the other schools. I'm pretty sure Tech Talks are done for this school year.
