Hello World!

If you were expecting some Hello World sample, you'll be deeply disappointed because it's just another introduction of another developer on the Messaging team. And no, not for the T-shirt, of course not! ... but I'll take one anyway! :)

When I first joined Microsoft, I worked on Microsoft Project, but I've always had a side passion for devices. I bought the Cassiopeia A20, a black-and-white handheld that ran at a measly 80 MHz with 8 MB of RAM, and having grown up on the Apple //e, I ported an Apple //e emulator to it. I was able to run Ms. Pacman on it at about 70% speed, but decided that I needed to wait for new technology. Also, it was rather difficult to type on the keyboard while holding it, so I was hoping for a purely pen-input device.

Then Lo and Behold, the iPAQ came out, and I immediately lined up to get one. With the form-factor, it literally went with me everywhere, and I even altered my wardrobe and began wearing cargo pants because of it! Of course, I ported my //e emulator to the device, and with a little trimming of the display size, it ran perfectly. By this point I've been indulging myself with all sorts of newsgroups and learning more about the device, and came to the realization: If I'm already spending so much time thinking about it, why don't I join the group and make a direct impact on the device? That realization brought me here today!

Now if someday I can write an Amiga emulator on one of these devices...

Hmm, so does the Apple emulator run faster with WM2003? Did you ever release it?

I too remember back then and it's amazing how much the marketplace has matured.
