Dr. Dobb’s Challenge Deuce: Play, Modify, Win
Dr. Dobb’s Journal and the Microsoft Visual Studio team have teamed up to create Dr. Dobb’s Challenge Deuce, a competition with $10,000 in prizes.
They’ve built a Silverlight game where Dr. Dobbs and his team of friends work together to solve several mysteries, collecting Visual Studio icons for extra points along the way.
But the most interesting part of the challenge is that you can develop your own games and levels, using the Silverlight application itself, or by downloading a Silverlight sample application and modifying the code using a free trial version of Microsoft Visual Studio. They’ve even written some great tutorials to help you get up and running quickly.
$10,000 (U.S.) in cash and prizes will be given to those building new levels and new games.
The best levels created each week will be awarded a coveted Dr. Dobbs Bobblehead, and the best level created each month will be given $500.
At the end of the contest, Dr. Dobb’s and Microsoft will award $1,000 to the “Best Total Conversion,” $1,000 to the “Best Game Starring Dr. Dobbs And The Defy All Challenges Crew,” $1,000 to the “Best One Button Game,” and $2,000 to the “Best Game Overall”.
The entry deadline for the challenge is June 12th, 2009 at 11:59pm PDT. Full contest information and rules can be found here and here.
Have fun and good luck!
